M. Drue Williams, a native Detroiter, has worked in various plays regionally and in New York City, including, “Book of the Dead: Second Avenue” (Public Theatre), “American Menu” (New Federal Theatre), “Life During Wartime” (Nuyorican Poets Café) and Bee-Luther-Hatchee (Stamford Theatre Works), among others. She toured the country as Harriet Tubman in “Freedom Train” (Theatreworks USA) and was heard on Jazzplay’s, “Explain Me the Blues” (National Public Radio). Drue is an Anna Award nominee for best supporting actress as Beneatha in “A Raisin in the Sun” (Mill Mountain Theatre) and received an AUDELCO Award for Best Ensemble for the H.A.D.L.E.Y. Players’ “American Menu” in 2002 (see review) and in 2014 for “Sassy Mamas.” She is currently a member of the Studio Company at Luna Stage in West Orange, New Jersey.
As a fellowship student, Drue has been studying improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade. She has a BA in Theatre from Michigan State University and has studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Ensemble Studio Theatre and with Uta Hagen, among others.
Also an accomplished visual artist, Drue has an AA summa cum laude from the Fashion Institute of Technology, is a recipient of the Urban Artist Initiative/New York City, 2006, UAI Buddy Award 2007, has work in the collection at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and had work in the National Black Theatre’s #HoodiesUp exhibit.
Drue is a member of the Harlem Arts Alliance, Studio Museum of Harlem, Black Theatre Network, Actors’ Equity Association and SAG/AFTRA.
